We had a great opening night for the Play Hard or Go Home basketball league (PHGH). The games featured multiple highlight plays and great three-point shooting.
The first game was between Team Terrell (a WEH team) and CASH. The game was close the entire way with Terrell’s team leading the majority of the time. Late in the 2nd half, Team Terrell went on a 6-0 run from back-to-back three pointers, which led to a ten point lead. Following a timeout, a late comeback push from CASH fell short, with Team Terrell grabbing the 56-49 victory.
Deon Singletery led Team Terrell with 19 points on 7/15 shooting. Joel Morris had a nice game going 55% from the field with 17 points and 5 rebounds.
For CASH, Bruce Hopkins had 20 points and Patrick Colbreath added 7 points and 7 boards.
If Singletery can shoot the ball like he did last night throughout the rest of the season, Team Terrell has a shot at the championship.
In the second contest, Blue Hill Boys and Girls Club and Boston United squared off. . Despite the low-post presence of Mohamed Mansaray, who had 14 points and 9 rebounds, Boston United was unable to claim a victory in their PHGH debut. The uptempo style of Blue Hill proved to be too much, with a few big 3-pointers in the 2nd half leading the team to a 49-35 W. Blue Hill is a well-rounded club that was really hitting on all cylinders throughout the night.
On another note, if Mansaray can get his thunderous dunks to fall, the WEH gym would truly explode.
Once again, a great first night for all teams involved, and we hope to see this type of play on Thursday night as Team Kevin plays O’Bryant at 6:30 and we see Team Mark vs. Team Zack at 7:30. See you all then.
