The first match up between Light Blue vs. O’Bryant, got off to a late start, and Light Blue never really got going throughout the entire game – turnovers. Turnovers were the main reason Team Mark received a 73-40 loss.
Light Blue was barely able to get the ball over mid-court due to O’Bryant’s full court press that completely disrupted the former’s offensive flow. Jaden Coakely was able to create offense for Light Blue by connecting on some long range jumpers, and, for the second straight week, Emperor Phillips was a dominant low-post presence. But the press combined with O’Bryants fast-break opportunities, allowed the team to run away with the victory.
The Highlight player of the night was O’Bryant’s Kobe who has showed serious ups, showing off a few slams and alley-oops.
Overall, O’Bryant looked like they were connecting on all cylinders, and truly having fun the entire game. They may well be the favorites for the championship.
The 2nd game was a back and forth battle between Black and Red. Early on, Javaughn Edmonds picked up 3 early fouls, which led to a quick substitution. Following Javaughn’s lack of presence, Red nailed back-to-back 3-pointers, which prompted Red’s coach, Kevin, to immediately put Javaughn back in the game. Going into the half, the game was tied at 34-34, with both teams experiencing extreme highs and lows.
Coming out of halftime, Black started to get the entire team involved in the offense, with Mehdi Zidani hitting a quick 3. When the team began sharing the ball, good things happened and they started to pull away with the lead.
Although it felt that Black was running away with the victory, Red was very much in the game with less than 2 minutes remaining. Red cut the lead to 1, following some crucial turnovers by Black. When it seemed that Red could take the lead, Black was able to steal the ball, and Javaughn Edmonds was fouled at the rim with 1:20 left. Following two made free throws, Red wasn’t able to connect on some solid 3-point attempts, and Black pulled out the 64-57 win.
For Red, Deon Singletary led the team with 19 points. Joshua St. Germaine added 16 points on 8/14 shooting.
