Week 3 Games – 4/19

Due to Boston Public School’s Spring Break, games today, 4/19 and 4/21 are being played at 3pm and 4 pm.

The first game of the day was between Black and Purple (O’Bryant).

After a slow start for both teams, Purple was able to take a sizable lead, eventually ending the game with a 60-22 victory .  Their press and solid around-the-rim finishing propelled them to an easy W.  Coming out of halftime, they went on an 11-0 run on back-to-back 3’s, and they never looked back, dominating on both sides of the ball.  Once again, Dasonte and Kobe really impressed the crowd. With Dasonte’s stellar ball handing skills and Kobe’s high flying capability:  They are fun to watch.

For team Black, they seemed unable to get on the same page throughout the game, and possibly relied on their three point shooting to keep them in the game.  When their shots didn’t fall, they did not play particularly well on either end of the court.

A close finish in the second game of the day between Grey and Yellow (Boston United) was an exciting match-up.  Initially, it looked like Yellow held the upper hand, but in the 2nd half Grey went on a major run and cut deep into Yellow’s lead.  Once Grey realized they were dribbling way too much, things turned around and they look strong as a squad.

With 1:10 left in the game, Herlaine Germain hit a big three point shot, cutting the lead to just 3 points.  Following a Yellow turnover, Akeem Hanson was fouled taking a tre, sending him to the foul-line for three big shots.  He missed the first, made the second, and Rashaud was able to come away with the rebound following the last shot.  He took one dribble on the baseline and put up a floater that hit off the front iron. A Yellow player pulled down the rebound and was immediately fouled.  After missing the front-end of the one-and-one, Grey called a quick timeout and had the ball for one last shot.  Herlain took the ball up the court and headed to the right side of the three point line.  He squared up  towards the rim and was hit on the arm before he was able to pull the trigger, forcing a 1 and 1 free throw attempt.  Although he looked confident preparing for his moment, he was unable to sink the free throw, BUT, a violation was called on Yellow’s bench allowing Herlaine another attempt, but to no avail.  Herlaine missed the 2nd shot and the game ended with a final score of 43-41.

For Grey, Darai Bey looked extremely strong down in the post, making the majority of his attempts.  If the team can get the ball to him more often, they may have found a strong option on offense.

For Yellow, Rodal was able to come away with 14 rebounds and 7 points.
